Creativity is as Important in Education as literacy

Jan 12, 2018

During last Monday’s in-service, the faculty and I took the opportunity to roll up our sleeves and work on implementing our focus on 21st Century skills of creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication.  To frame the discussion, we watched and discussed a TED Talk by Dr. Ken Robinson, entitled “Do Schools Kill Creativity?” One of the twenty most viewed TED Talks of all time, I highly  recommend it (click here to watch or watch below).  Dr. Robinson, a renowned researcher and speaker on education and innovation, makes the bold argument that creativity is as important in education as literacy. As teachers we are working to maximize the opportunities for students to apply the content they are learning in creative and meaningful ways. Our goal is for Summit to be a school that nurtures and fuels the creative application of robust subject knowledge.
