Why Summit.

Hear it from the Families living it.

Every family comes to Summit with a different story. But when they talk about what makes this school special, the same things come up again and again: teachers who truly know their students, learning that meets children where they are, a community where families feel connected, and children who are happy to come to school.

Because of his leadership, the school feels like one big family where every child is known, supported, and valued. It’s a warm, nurturing environment that has made a meaningful difference for our son’s confidence, happiness, and overall experience at school.

Why families choose Summit.

What makes a school the right place for a child is deeply personal. Yet across years of Summit family experiences, the same themes surface again and again.

Summit School teacher working one-on-one with a student during robotics.

Known and supported.

They know my child.

Small classes are part of the Summit experience. What families describe goes deeper: teachers and staff who know their children personally, recognize their strengths, notice when something isn’t working, and care about who they are becoming.

One of the things that impressed me most is how many staff members actually know my kids (and me!) personally. Not just their core teachers, but many adults on campus know them by name, stop to talk to them, and seem invested in who they are.

-Summit Parent

Yelp

The middle school program is truly impressive. Small class sizes, strong academics, passionate teachers who truly know your child, athletic programs that allow the novice athlete to participate alongside those that have been playing for years, and above all, character development and a sense of community is stressed. Adolescence is hard, Summit makes it a little bit easier.

-Summit Parent

Yelp

The teachers are not only great at engaging the kids and helping them learn things for themselves, but they genuinely care about their students.

-Summit Parent

Yelp

Individualized learning

They meet kids where they are.

Children don’t all learn the same way, develop on the same timetable, or need the same level of challenge. Families describe teachers who recognize those differences and respond, providing support when a student needs it and extending learning when a child is ready for more.

If a student isn’t fully understanding an assignment the teachers work hard to offer solutions. There’s individual support, check-ins, and a lot of patience. At the same time, if a child is ready for more of a challenge, the teachers are quick to extend their learning. For example, my child is currently receiving accelerated math assignments to keep her moving forward.

Yelp

The teachers are incredible and really educated our girls are individuals, allowing them to grow their strengths while working on their weaker spots. Our girls have absolutely blossomed and thrived while at Summit - we could not be happier.

-Summit Parent

Yelp

They have a special way of bringing out the unique in each child, and building an individual curriculum to help challenge each child while helping them strive for success.

They’re happy to come to school.

Academic growth matters. So does how children feel while they’re growing. Across years of reviews, families describe children who look forward to school, form meaningful relationships, become more confident, and discover that learning can actually be something they enjoy.

“My kids don’t ever want to miss school and that says everything.”

Summit simply made her realize that gaining knowledge and being a smart and intelligent student should not be painful but actually fun.

Strong academics matter. Summit families also talk about communication, confidence, character, collaboration, critical thinking, kindness, independence, and the skills their children carry with them beyond the classroom.

The academics are great, but what really sets Summit apart are the intangibles the kids learn everyday that will serve them well wherever they land: how to communicate in multiple different mediums to a variety of audiences, how to collaborate to create a variety of projects and products and solve problems, and how to conduct research and think critically. All in elementary school.

Yelp

Mr. Wald and all of the staff have created a safe, welcoming environment where kids are not just taught academics but also taught about the importance of kindness, respect, character, and community.

Yelp

More than a school.

It feels like home.

Summit is a place children come to learn. Over time, many families describe something else taking shape too: relationships with teachers, friendships across grades, familiar faces around campus, and a community that becomes part of their family’s life.

We have been at Summit for the past 6 years and we truly believe the teachers, staff and administration are amazing. Summit has been such a positive aspect of our lives and we truly feel fortunate for the solid academic and social foundation that all 3 of our boys have. Summit is like home for us.

Yelp

The culture at Summit feels collaborative instead of competitive. Kindness is modeled (PEAK to Achieve), different cultures are celebrated, and you can really tell the kids are genuinely happy to be there.

Making the decision to switch to this private school was truly life-changing for our child.

The difference has been night and day. Our son is now happy, confident, and feels safe at school again. His mental health, emotional well-being, and overall outlook have improved in ways we honestly hoped for but weren’t sure were possible.

I also want to note that we drive 30 minutes each way because of the positive environment and support our son receives here.

Yelp

What an incredible school for children from toddlers all the way to 8th grade. My daughter in 5th grade and my son, in the peek program, absolutely love school everyday. The teaches are so passionate about their work, the class sizes are small and the sense of family community is second to none. We are so happy we found Summit. It is such a gift in so many ways!

Yelp

My kids both go to Summit. My son has been there since 2022 and my daughter is new this year to the pre-K program. As a public school teacher, it was hard to send my kids to private school but I knew they deserved the smaller class sizes, tight knit community and opportunities Summit provides. We couldn’t be happier with the teachers, curriculum, and community engagement that Summit provides.

Our sons just finished a wonderful year at Summit School of Ahwatukee. We saw so much progress with each of our children, and it’s amazing to see how much they enjoy their school live. Yelp

Summit gave me a safe space to learn and grow into the person I am now. I first latched onto the idea of living in New York and working in the Arts while I was at Summit and I don’t know if I would have actually made it to NYC without the support of Summit’s amazing teachers, who gave me the confidence in my academics and my ambitions that I needed to make it happen.

I’ll never be able to thank them enough for their trust, their guidance, and their friendship! After Summit I went on to Xavier College Preparatory High School and American University in Washington, DC. I’m now living in New York, working at a non-profit theatre company that produces work on and off-Broadway.

Our daughter just completed her third year at Summit School, after transferring from another school. She is absolutely thriving. She is excited about telling me about her day when she jumps in the car at pick up. She blows kisses at the school when we drive by. She is deeply engaged in her homework and project assignments – many of which require her focus, creativity and humor. She has been getting straight A’s along with several A+’s since she began attending Summit .

As one of her teachers noted, she is one of the most driven students she has ever worked with. Our daughter is now in an environment that is able to foster her intelligence, creativity and drive. During her time at Summit our daughter has regained her confidence, her excitement toward learning, and her drive to excel. Summit has given us back our child.

As a former Kindergarten teacher and now a Full-Time faculty and Administrator in Higher Education, I was very “picky” in looking for a school to send my children to. From the moment I toured Summit School, I was impressed. The classrooms are rich with resources; the teachers are caring and committed to educating the students. Our oldest son attended preschool this year and we have been amazed by all of the wonderful things he has learned and experienced.

Next year, he will be attending Kindergarten and we are so excited for his experience at Summit to continue, as well as our second son’s experience at Preschool to begin. I highly recommend Summit School to anyone looking for an all around quality education plus so much more!

-Summit Parent

The amount of individual attention students receive is amazing. All teachers know all students as a whole person, not just a side that they show in a particular subject area. Middle school teachers are very aware of where each student is in terms of their academic achievement and readiness and willing to spend working with them during break or before/after school to ensure that students are appropriately challenged.

It is our 7th year at Summit and I am confident that our daughter is receiving education that no other school in the area offers. We are extremely impressed and overjoyed with Summit School of Ahwatukee!

My wife and I are both educators and we both know a quality educational institution when we see one. Summit School has exceeded all of our expectations and we firmly believe that it is the finest educational institution in the state. From teachers who truly get to know our children and offer an individualized and student-centered curriculum, to an environment of safety and support, we truly appreciate every part of the Summit educational experience.

I am familiar with the research on brain development and during these critical, formative years, we are extremely fortunate to have our sons in an education environment that encourages their curiosity and creativity. We are grateful to Summit for helping pave the way to a bright future for our children. Summit School is an educational haven and an island of individualized education in a sea of standardization. Our sons come home from school each day energized and enthusiastic and that is truly a gift.

Having worked for the last 10 years in Arizona as a teacher, I feel that I can fairly judge the merits of an educational program and I feel Summit is top notch. We have been nothing but impressed by Summit’s small student-to-teacher ratio, the genuine caring and support of the teachers, and an academic program that challenges children to learn new things while still building their self-esteem. Our son has grown in leaps and bounds this year and the great program at Summit is a huge part of that growth.

My wife and I genuinely believe that an investment in the education of children will pay dividends throughout their lives which is why I am pleased to give my highest possible recommendation on behalf of the school.

Three boys who have learned self responsibility for their own education. Two boys tried elsewhere and admit they do much better academically at Summit. Teachers are personable and know each child! Students learn how to communicate with teachers to ensure success! Small class sizes are key! LOVE SUMMIT!

-Summit Parent

This special learning community is a rare find in schools today. The supportive “family” atmosphere is wonderful for our children, and every day they are challenged to do their very best. Small class sizes, excellent teachers, special classes, and emphasis on developing citizens of high character are just a few of the things that make this a top-notch school!

-Summit Parent

My two younger children have been at Summit for two and a half years, and I regret that my oldest child never had the opportunity. What a great school! The Elementary curriculum provides students with a rock solid foundation in an innovative, challenging, yet, fun environment. The Middle School, then builds upon that foundation to create lifelong learners who are well prepared for High School, College and beyond.

The Teachers and Administrators are exceptional! They are invested in the students and the Summit community. My children feel respected, valued and truly C.A.R.E.d about.

-Summit Parent

The search for the perfect school was a difficult and arduous process. I looked at 10 different schools in the area, all of which were good but not great. Each school presented itself with its own distinguishing characteristics but fell short in providing the perfect combination of academic excellence and character building. Summit exceeds my expectations in every regard. The academics are outstanding and are presented to the kids in a way that is engaging and inspires a lifelong love of learning.

The staff is excellent, from the administration, to the teachers and even the cleaning staff. The parent/family community is incredibly supportive and feels more like an extended family than people we simply know because they attend the same school as our kids. We have a child in kindergarten and preschool and are so happy we found the perfect place for them to grow, thrive, be happy and excel.

What our son has learned in just a short month is proof in the pudding as to how stellar their curriculum is. Last year my son went to Kyrene Public School and would continually tell me how bored he was every week with school. When my son started this year at Summit School he said “Daddy, I love my new school and I’m not bored’.

When you are here, you feel like this school is truly part of your family. I was also impressed with the lower number of students to teacher ratio in the classes at Summit. I also like the philosophy at Summit that there is no ceiling towards learning for each student which enables the students to achieve anything they want to which you will be hard pressed to witness at Kyrene Elementary Public School.

I also enjoy seeing the respect that each student has for each other at Summit which is refreshing to see. You can physically feel the joy of students, teachers, and parents. This truly is a gift to my child and will set him up for future success.

-Summit Parent

Summit School is a great school. We have 3 kids at the school, 1 in middle school and 2 in elementary. We have been a part of the Summit community and family for 2 years now. I call it a community and family because it is just that… from the students and their parents, to the teachers, to the staff. Summit really brings out the best in it’s students. The challenge the kids to do their best, to be creative and to enjoy the learning experience.

Our kids transferred from public schools and we have seen them grow tremendously in their academics, the attitudes towards school and in their character qualities. We would highly recommend Summit School for any family that is looking for an inspiring culture that has great teachers and a welcoming and inclusive student body. It has been the best investment that our family has and could have made for our kids and for their future success.

Common questions

Questions about choosing Summit.

Are the reviews on this page from real Summit families?

Yes. The experiences shared on this page come from Summit parents, grandparents, alumni, and members of our school community. Many were originally posted independently on third-party review platforms, while others were shared directly with Summit over the years.

Where a review comes from a third-party platform, we identify the source when available. Excerpts may be shortened for length, but the words themselves have not been rewritten.

Why should I visit Summit instead of relying only on online reviews?

Choosing a school is personal, and no review — positive or negative — can tell you exactly what your child’s experience will be.

A campus visit gives you the opportunity to see Summit for yourself. Step into classrooms, observe how teachers and students interact, ask questions that matter to your family, and get a feel for the community your child could become part of.

We encourage prospective families to look beyond any single review and experience the school firsthand.

What do Summit families most often say makes the school different?

Every family’s experience is unique, but several themes appear consistently across years of family feedback: teachers who know their students personally, small classes, individualized learning, strong academics, opportunities beyond the core curriculum, and a close-knit community.

Families also frequently describe children who are happy to come to school, grow in confidence, and feel known and supported by the adults around them.

Is Summit the right school for every child?

Finding the right school means finding the right fit for your child and your family. Summit is designed for families who value strong academics, individualized learning, meaningful relationships, opportunities for children to explore broadly, and a school community where students are known.

The best way to decide whether that environment feels right for your child is to experience it yourself. We invite you to visit campus, meet our educators, ask questions, and see Summit in action.

Can I talk with a current Summit family before deciding?

Yes. We know that sometimes the most helpful perspective comes from another parent. Our Admissions team can help connect prospective families with current Summit families when appropriate so you can ask questions and hear directly about their experience.

See Summit for yourself.

You’ve heard from the families who know Summit. Now come experience the classrooms, educators, and community for yourself.
