About Summit School of Ahwatukee
The first thing you'll notice (and we do recommend a tour) is our friendly and loving environment! Our staff is happy to be here, our parents know each other and act like old friends and our kids are excited! The combination of our supportive environment and lifelong learning approach encourages great things to happen in the minds of our students. Here are some of the things that make Summit School of Ahwatukee effective:
• We assess student skills and styles and create a Personal Education Plan for each student. Parents participate in this process and the plan is reviewed periodically.
• We focus on academics, but emphasize hands-on, real life learning experiences to teach and reinforce the basics of reading, language arts, math, social sciences, and Kindergarten science through Middle School science with a modern, well-equipped science lab for lab experiments.
• Lessons and units are theme-based; this makes the learning connected, meaningful, and interesting to students.
• Students receive regular instruction in Spanish, art, music, physical education, library, and technology taught by skilled specialists!
• Technology is an important part of the learning process. We have laptop learning carts for 1:1 computing in the classroom, desktop research computers in every classroom and a separate tech lab. All computers on campus are linked to printers, scanners, and the Internet.
• Our curriculum is written and shared with parents. It goes above and beyond the state standards. Teachers provide regular written updates on learning achievements.
• Most school days begin with a morning meeting of the entire staff and students. Information, announcements, birthdays, and special introductions are shared, along with a special presentation by a class.
• Students are also very involved in field trips, cross age activities, and community service projects.
• Our school is safe, completely enclosed, and well supervised.
